When a storm, fallen branch or failed roof section leaves your home open to the weather, a properly installed tarp is the fastest way to stop more water from getting inside. Our licensed roofing crews install temporary tarp protection across Los Angeles and the foothill communities.
When you need an emergency tarp
Tarping makes sense any time the roof can no longer shed water on its own: missing or broken tiles and shingles, holes from tree limbs, wind-lifted sections, fire or ember damage, or a leak that is actively dripping into the attic or living space.
A tarp buys time. It protects ceilings, insulation, drywall, electrical and belongings while you get estimates, wait on an insurance adjuster or schedule permanent repairs.
How we install it
We review the damage, roof type and safe access first. The tarp is sized to extend past the damaged area and over the ridge where possible so water runs off instead of under it, then anchored with battens and fasteners suited to the roof system. Tile, shingle and low-slope roofs each need a different approach.
Where agreed, we photograph the damage before and after installation so you have a record for your insurance claim.
What tarping is not
A tarp is temporary protection, not a roof repair. Sun, wind and time break tarps down, so plan permanent repairs promptly. Permanent roof repair or re-roofing is quoted separately, and as a licensed C-39 roofing contractor we do that work too.
Common questions
How long does an emergency roof tarp last?
A well-installed tarp is meant to protect the roof for weeks to a few months, depending on sun and wind exposure. It should be replaced by a permanent repair as soon as practical.
Does homeowners insurance cover emergency tarping?
Many policies expect you to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage, and tarping is often part of that. Coverage depends on your policy, so check with your insurer and keep the photos and invoice.
Can you tarp a tile roof without breaking more tiles?
Tile roofs need careful foot placement and anchoring. Our crews work on clay and concrete tile regularly and plan the installation to minimize additional breakage.
